sign-and-tulipsWe are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Metropolitan New York Synod (MNYS). Our life is centered in the Good News of God’s never-ending love given to us in the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ! We emphasize God’s grace and practice welcome and hospitality as our Mission statement says:

To Seek and Share God’s Grace Through Welcome, Worship and Work

Our tag line is: The Welcome Place and truly all our welcome, regardless of their past, or where they find themselves on the theological spectrum.

Our family reflects our very diverse neighborhood.

Trinity Lutheran Church was formed in 1890 by German immigrants who came from Lower Manhattan. As ferries and bridges opened up connecting Astoria and Long Island City with Manhattan, Trinity prospered. Services were originally conducted in German, but switched to English in the 1920s.

Trinity continues to welcome immigrants from all over. Our present family includes persons from Tanzania, Poland, Sierra Leone, Spain, Peru, Germany, Hungary, China, Israel, India, Egypt, Panama, Guyana, Colombia, as well as persons from all parts of the United States. We are also persons born and raised in Astoria/Long Island City.

Our family includes people from various economic situations, single, married, widowed, young, middle age, old, various sexual orientations, and folk who grew up Lutheran and those who are new to Christianity itself.

Our main building where we hold worship and fellowship events was built in 1927 and is of neo-Gothic architecture. In it you will find beautiful stained glass windows, wood carvings, a slate floor and our historic Skinner organ.

Our beautiful garden is maintained by our own Chris Ducharme who is assisted by many persons with planting, weeding and maintaining it. In addition to the lovely trees and flowers, we also have strawberries, raspberries, corn and pumpkins growing in our garden!

Come join us in our celebration of love and life!
